Books for the Cambridge Proficiency Examination course starting in February 2015
The basic textbook for the Cambridge Proficiency course is:
|title:||Objective Proficiency Student book with answers|
|authors:||Annette Capel and Wendy Sharp|
|publishers:||Ernst Klett (on behalf of Cambridge University Press)|
There are two set books that you can read and answer questions on but you are not obliged to do so.
The set books for 2015 are:
|Howards End||An Education|
|authors:||E. M. Forster||Nick Hornby|
|film versions:||1992 Merchant / Ivory version||2009 Scherig film|
|NOTES:||if you are a film watcher the exam board recommend watching the Merchant Ivory version of the film as well as reading the book.||This is a film script so if probably better to watch the film before reading the script.|
There are two questions one on each book / screenplay in the optional part of the writing paper. If you have read the books / watched the films then you have the option to answer those questions as well. If you are not a book / film person then you still have three other questions from which to choose.
The textbook is necessary but the set books we will discuss in class. Though if you like reading or watching the films you might like to get them as presents at Christmas.
I also recommend that you download the Cambridge English Proficiency: Handbook for Teachers. It is aimed at teachers but there is good information in it for students and I will be referring to it during the course.
